2006 Kelly Cup Playoffs: The Gladiators lead the American Conference
Champion****p series against the Toledo Storm 3-games-to-1 after
defeating Toledo on Sunday at the Toledo S****ts Arena. Game 5 of the
series is set for Tuesday at the Toledo S****ts Arena at 7:05 p.m. Game 6
and 7, if necessary, are set for the Arena at Gwinnett Center on
Saturday, May 20th and Sunday, May 21st. Gwinnett defeated South
Carolina and Florida to advance to the American Conference Champion****p
round.
On the Road: The Gladiators improved to 5-0 on the road during the 2006
Kelly Cup Playoffs as they defeated the Toledo Storm 4-2 in consecutive
road games on May 12th and 14th. Gwinnett has a better road record in
the post season (5-0) than at the Arena at Gwinnett Center (4-2) in the
2006 Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Three or More: The Gladiators have posted three or more goals in every
playoff game during the 2006 Kelly Cup Playoffs. The Gladiators recorded
four goals in each of their last two games against the Toledo Storm
while averaging and ECHL Playoff best 4.55 goals per game.
More Goals for Gajic: Gladiators forward Milan Gajic posted his 8th goal
of the 2006 Kelly Cup Playoffs in Gwinnett=3Fs 4-2 win over the Toledo
Storm on Sunday, May 14th. Gajic=3Fs 8 goals now shares first in goals
scored during the playoffs with Fresno=3Fs Fraser Clair.
On the plus side: Milan Gajic was even in the Gladiators 4-2 win over
the Toledo Storm on Sunday, May 14th to remain at +9 during the Kelly
Cup Playoffs. His +9 is good for second in the ECHL in Plus/Minus
ranking while he leads the Gladiators in that category.
What a Shot! There have been 5 penalty shots awarded during the 2006
Kelly Cup Playoffs with the Gladiators taking part in four of those five
op****tunities with a penalty shot awarded in each round of the post
season to date. South Carolina=3Fs Ryan Finnerty, the only penalty shot
against the Gladiators, was successful in the opening round against Adam
Berkhoel on April 15th. Matt York was unsuccessful while Milan Gajic
made his attempt against the Florida Everblades in the second round on
April 19th and April 28th respectively. Jeff Campbell had the Gladiators
third penalty shot of the playoffs on Sunday and bested Toledo=3Fs Drew
MacIntyre in the third period of the Gladiators 4-2 win over the Storm.

May 8th, Toledo 4, Gladiators 3 =3F OTL
For the second consecutive game, the Gladiators fell behind the Storm 3-
1 but were again able to tie the game at three but could not complete
the comeback in overtime. Toledo led 1-0 before Derek Nesbitt tied the
game at one with a power play goal 4:52 into the first. Toledo scored
the next two to take a 3-1 lead before Matt York had his second goal of
the post season 6:54 into the third while Brad Schell tied the game at
three with 7:11 left in the third. Gwinnett could not capitalize on two
power play chances, one with time winding down in the third and one
early in overtime as the Storm scored the game winner at 7:14 of
overtime. Adam Berkhoel finished with 41 saves in the loss while Troy
Milam collected two assists for Gwinnett.
May 12th, Gladiators 4, Toledo 2 =3F W
The Gwinnett Gladiators posted four goals in the second period and held
on for a 4-2 win over the Storm in Game 3 of the American Conference
Finals. Toledo led 1-0 after the first period but Gwinnett tied the game
at one on Scott Mifsud=3Fs first goal of the game early in the period. Jon
Awe gave the Gladiators a 2-1 lead just minutes later but the Storm tied
the game at two. Troy Milam scored the game winner half way through the
period and Mifsud gave the Gladiators a 4-2 lead just 53 seconds later.
Gwinnett clamped down defensively in the third to keep the score at 4-2
as Sean Fields made 20 saves for the win. Adam Courchaine finished with
a pair of assists for the Gladiators in the win.
May 14th, Gladiators 4, Toledo 2 =3F W
For the fourth consecutive game against Toledo, the Gladiators fell
behind the Storm but were able to rally for the win. Toledo posted two
second period goals to take a 2-0 lead heading into the third period.
Gwinnett got back into the contest with a goal 40 seconds into the third
by Milan Gajic. Jeff Campbell tied the game on a penalty shot at the
5:35 mark of the third while Scott Mifsud posted his second game-winning
goal of the playoffs for the Gladiators. Jeff Dwyer rounded out the
scoring with his first goal of the post season with 47 seconds left in
the game. Sean Fields made 24 saves for the Gladiators in the win.

Gwinnett leads the best-of-seven American Conference Champion****p series
against the Toledo Storm by a 3-games-to-1 margin. The Gladiators have
had to overcome a Toledo lead in each game for the team=3Fs three wins.
The Gladiators have outscored the Storm by a 9-0 margin in the third
period in the first four games of the series. Matt Zultek=3Fs 7 points
leads the Storm in scoring during the series against the Gladiators.
Jeff Campbell and Troy Milam have each recorded 5 points for the
Gladiators in 4 games against the Storm during the American Conference
Finals.
