NOTES:
Lapierre has signed as an RFA, and now Tanguay is added.
Likely baseless rumour has it the Habs offered Sundin two years @[EMAIL PROTECTED]
which would do a pretty good job of chewing up the rest of the
cap space, if true. Personally, I could even see Sundin commanding
more than $7.2M on an open market, although I'll acknowledge to
anybody who pushes the point that Sundin seems to be more about the
fit than the $ figure at this point in his career, from his own
perspective. But who knows.
Either way, after adding Tanguay, it does appear that the Habs, with
Sundin as their next priority, are not looking at any other
significant UFA additions, and of course are not setting any
priorities on retaining their own UFAs. Especially if you think (as
many will) that my estimate above for AKostitsyn is waaaay low. In
fact, if Kostitsyn does manage to score a bigger payday, and if the
Habs do indeed get Sundin, I'd probably start getting a little worried
if I was Mathieu Dandenault. And we might need to start looking at
carrying a smaller rosters at times, which wouldn't be good news for
guys like Grabovski, Chipchura, or O'Byrne.
