Hey Gang,
Here's where things stand to date:
G
Gerber, Martin
Auld, Alex
D
Phillips, Chris
Volchenkov, Anton
Meszaros, Andrej (RFA)
Schubert, Christoph
Lee, Brian
F
Heatley, Dany
Spezza, Jason
Alfredsson, Daniel
Fisher, Mike
Neil, Chris
Vermette, Antoine (RFA)
Kelly, Chris
Foligno, Nick
McAmmond, Dean
Bass, Cody
So it seems that we're short one or two defensemen (if Schubert plays
forward) and one or two forwards. On defense, perhaps Lawrence Nycholat
or
Matt Carkner will make the team, but they didn't really impress in the
past
and it's pretty hard to say that either will replace Redden in the
starting
6. This is a glaring weakness and it looks like Murray has missed the
boat
signing any of the free agents that could have helped the Sens. (Lilles,
Campbell, Streit, etc.)
On forward, perhaps one of the Russians (Zubov or Nikulin) who played in
Bingo last year could make the team and there are a couple of other guys
that are close but not what I would call real NHL'ers yet (Hennessy (RFA),
O'Brien, Winchester).
(One could argue that we still need a starting goaltender, but that's a
discussion for another day!)
Could be a very long season if Murray doesn't pull of something good in
the
few days.
