NHL Writing/Media op****tunity [Most Valuable Network]

by XxVDSxX@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sep 1, 2005 at 02:37 PM

I'll make this short. I am the Hockey section president for a company
called "The Most Valuable Network." Recently we've begun to expand into
the NHL, AHL and other Hockey aspects. It's been a bit harder than
originally thought to find people to cover specific teams. Thus, why I
am here.

If anyone would be interested in covering a specific team, please read
on. If you'd just like to visit MVN, please click here: MVN

For those interested in writing, here is a short background:

I. Most Valuable Network

A. What exactly is MVN?

MVN (Please note it is not the MVP Network, nor is it MVP - it is Most
Valuable Network, aka. MVN) is a collection of s****ts blogs, written by
the fan, for the fan. While we have aspirations of one day becoming the
next ESPN, we want to at the same time, hold to the ideals of blogs and
"Average Joes" close by. We are attempting to be a journalistic
enterprise, so we really like it when there is good grammar,
punctuation, and spelling! At the same time, we want to literally be
the voice of the fan.

A lot of people ask, what is required of MVN and what do you get for
writing. To answer thos questions.

B. What is required of me at MVN?

Hopefully you already know the answer to this! If not, you must post at
least once a week, and unofficially, that has graduated to twice a
week. MVN is growing, and along with it, your dedication ought to. We
completely understand you have lives seperate from MVN (so do we!) but
you should not enter into a verbal agreement with MVN if you a) do not
intend to honor it fully and/or b) do not think you will have the time.
We are giving you a great op****tunity by giving you a chance to be
exposed to over 40,000 individual people each day, and not have to pay
for the server space! We also give you e-mail addresses, possible
advertising revenue ... we do all this to get YOUR words on our page,
and you not doing that violates the trust we have engaged in. If you
cannot post at least once a week, you need to reconsider your decision
to join MVN. MVN is rocketing up the popularity scale, and it's time we
look for dedicated writers who do a few things. One: love their subject
they're writing about and write about it with passion and personality.
Two: Turn that passion into not only quality articles, but many
articles. Write. Write, write, write. I don't care if you write one
long column on Sundays then three short blurbs the rest of the week,
I'll take that over the one long column. Three: Look at how the site
can be better. Link exchange with people, try to find people to
interview. Constantly improve your site. These following three links
will also help with the answer to this question.

a. There is no leeway on this?

Unfortunately, yes, there is. As long as you do not have a contract and
are not making money off of us, we are generally at a loss to force you
to write. We can threaten, cajole, beg, but that's all we can do. It
all boils down to YOU and your passion. If you are not going to write,
please tell us so we can look for someone. In addition, please don't
just vanish in thin air if you do not write, tell us! There is also
general leeway on this (vacation, need time off, etc.) but please tell
us or your'll get e-mails in your inbox from us, a partner, or even
replaced.

b. What benefits do I get for posting a lot?

As mentioned above, you get quite a few things. A quick rundown (and is
by no means limited to just this for benefits) is...

* More than 275,000 daily hits across the network and more than 30,000
unique users who would be exposed to your work.

* Your own page to write as you see fit, with a customized logo, and
your own MVN e-mail address.

* We would sup****t the site -- no maintenance worries! You are your own
editors, although we do request you refrain from the popular
"four-letter words".

* Share in any advertising revenue that advertisers buy on your site

* The chance to be included in national radio coverage, either on
MyS****tsRadio.com, S****tsTalkCleveland.com, or other radio shows. MVN
also has launched plans to have its own radio network?

i. Can you break down the advertising benefits?

You do not get any cut of the revenue from the red text that is found
under the logo or the Blogads with the pictures. This is because it
would be impossible on the tracking and percentage side of advertising
to break down daily, weekly, or monthly prices for the red text or
Blogads among 200+ writers on MVN. You would only get pennies, and
that's not worth the time to break down. In the future, when we're big
enough, we would be more than happy to split this with you, but at this
time, it is simply not feasible for us to spend all this time tracking
and charting the revenues gained from the Blogads and red text. In
addition, this advertising is not a direct reflection on you, but on
us, for they're advertising sitewite.

You do get revenue for "Official Sponsors" because advertisers have
singled you out. It all depends on the quality of the writing you do
and the frequency of updates, but generally writers will get 20% of the
revenues. This is tracked and writers are informed when they earn money
(this has not been the case since the winter, for MVN is holding all
outgoing payments to give itself a solid cash base - once we do, you
shall be informed of how much money you have earned thus far that we
owe). If MVN gets the advertising, writers may get no more than 20% of
the cut, and as stated above, we inform you of the price and it may
possibly be held back. If you find the advertising and refer them to
us, you get 50% of the cut, and you are paid immediately.

a. How did it start?

It started December 31st, 2003 by Frank Palmieri and Evan Brunell.
Frank is no longer with us, but we had a very small website on
Geocities.com and then in March of 2004, Evan met Dave on a Red Sox
message board, and Dave took an interest in MVN, registered the domain
name, and brought MVN into the public eye. It was primarily baseball
(and is still heavily baseball centric although we are attempting to
equalize it) and now is expanding into other s****ts.

b. How should I describe it?

Because we have a goal of being a journalistic enterprise, and because
there is a stigma on the word "blog", we really hate to use the word
"blog" and much prefer the term "news and opinion" or "columns". A good
way to word it is the way I do - a consortium of s****ts columns under
one roof, covering every team.

c. Why don't we have MVN.com?

Unfortunately, the current owners of MVN.com are refusing to sell the
website unless they are paid handsomely. We don't quite understand it
because they have no product on the webpage, but that's their
prerogative. We may break down and pay the price they are asking for,
but we will only do that once we have that amount in the bank. Their
lease runs out in 2008, and hopefully they will not renew it. We have
MVNS****ts.com redirecting to the MVN homepage, but we do not want to
move to MVNS****ts.com as long as the possibility that we may get
MVN.com is out there. In addition, eventually it would be nice to
branch out to columns other than s****ts.

If anyone remains interested, please contact me and let me know which
team you wish to cover, and we'll for from there.

If you have any further questions, feel free to e-mail me as well.

Sincerely,

Dan Benton
